The nation on Thursday remembered victims of the Mumbai carnage with their families still coming to terms with the horror unleashed last year on this day that devastated their lives.

Even as questions remain on whether another such an attack can be prevented, it was business as usual for Mumbaikars attending to schools, colleges and offices like any other day.

Commuters halted at the CST, Oberoi and the Taj besides the Nariman House, which all came under the brazen attack of 10 Pakistani terrorists leaving 166 dead and 304 wounded, to pay homage to the victims.

In Delhi, Parliament remembered those killed in the terror attacks and resolved to unitedly defeat the forces of terrorism which posed the gravest threat to humanity.

Members in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha stood in silence for a minute in memory of those killed.

"The House salutes the indomitable courage of the security forces who gave a crushing blow to the terrorists on November 26, 2008 and the fortitude of the people of Mumbai, " Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said.

In the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari recalled the way Mumbai quickly attained normalcy after the terror attack.

In Pune, President Pratibha Patil expressed Government's determination to track down those responsible for the ghastly attacks.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan was present at the camp. Prayers were also held with porters, railway workers and others offering flowers at a memorial.

CST was one of the first spots that Ajmal Kasab and his associate Abu Ismail attacked on 26/11. Kasab is the lone surviving terrorist arrested by the Mumbai police. The other nine terrorists were killed by the security forces in the 6--hour operation.

Poignant scenes were witnessed at the Trident and Taj hotels which bore the brunt of the terror attacks as people recalled the nightmare.

For newly weds Amit and Varsha Thadani, a night of joy turned out to be seven nerve-wrecking hours. As they were receiving guests for the reception at the Taj, they were confronted by the terrorists firing indiscriminately.

The scars of that day still remain etched in their memories as the couple celebrate their one first wedding anniversary.

H R Shrinivas of the Taj group remembers a waiter who braved the bullets to rescue many guests.

Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar says he went numb watching the live telecast of the terror attacks which he watched in the dressing room in Cuttack during their match against England. "At first I thought they were showing a movie..Things like this happening in India...in our own Mumbai...I went numb for sometime".

Karambir Kang, general manager of Taj whose wife and two children were killed in the attacks, says one cannot totally heal from such a tragedy. "But I am doing my best".

From Shahrukh Khan who turned painter for the occasion to Amitabh Bachchan joining a chorus of singers, the film fraternity paid tribute to the heroes and victims of the 26/11 attacks.

Khan joined a unique attempt to remember those who lost their lives on the eventful day by painting on a wall at Marine Lines.

"It was a very tragic event, but the good thing that happened was that the tragedy brought the people of Mumbai together and closer," said actor Aamir Khan.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan joined the chorus for a special song dedicated to the victims of the attacks.

Actor Akshay Kumar, whose wife Twinkle was at the Taj when the terrorists stormed in, saluted the spirit of the city which defied all odds to get back on its feet.

"I know I am the luckiest guy in the world as my family was saved from a tragedy but I would like to extend my support and love to those who have lost their loved ones," he said.
