Cricket: Asif's 'B' sample test on August 6

Mon-Jul 28, 2008

Karachi / Press Trust of India

Controversial Pakistan pacer Mohammad Asif, who tested positive during the inaugural Indian Premier League, will go for a 'B' sample test on August 6 in Switzerland, his lawyer said on Monday.

Shahid Karim, the embattled pacer's lawyer, said that the IPL anti-drugs committee has informed Asif about the test.

Karim, however, said that the time given to his client to prepare for the test and the case was still limited.

Asif has been suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) till a final decision was given by the IPL whose special drugs committee is supervising the case.

After failing the dope test, Asif had asked for a 'B' sample test, which was originally scheduled for July 28 but has now been extended on the request of the pacer.

"We would like to travel to Switzerland for the 'B' sample test, which we have a right to do. We would like to avail that right. We are in the process of applying for the visas for Switzerland, and we hope to get that by that date," said Karim.

"We are not very sure about being there by August 6. That's why we had requested the IPL, in the first instance, to extend the date to mid of August," he added.

Karim said that if the date had been extended to middle of August, it would have been convenient for him and his client to make arrangements.

"But they have fixed the date as August 6 and we are keeping our fingers crossed. We have applied and see what happens," he stated.
