Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will leave on Tuesday for Vienna where the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) will hold its crucial meeting on Thursday to consider a waiver for India.

Menon will hold a meeting with officials of Germany, the current chair of the 45-nation NSG on Wednesday, as well as the US and some other member countries in connection with the grouping's crucial two-day meeting.

Atomic Energy Commission chief Anil Kakodkar is also expected to join Menon in discussions with select NSG members over the draft waiver that is to be considered.

Menon and Kakodkar are expected to discuss with the NSG countries various issues related to the waiver, sources said.

India is not a member of the NSG and the US will be playing the key role in pushing New Delhi's case at the grouping.

The officials of India and the US are expected to fine-tune their strategy to be adopted at the NSG meet, sources said.
 
Ahead of the NSG meeting, a high-level meeting was held here today in which National Security Adviser M K Narayanan besides Menon and officials of the Department of Atomic Energy participated.

There have been suggestions that India should attend the NSG session but New Delhi is not to keen to do so and wants the US do to its bit there.
