BSF orders inquiry into cross-border infiltration

Sun-Aug 31, 2008

Jammu / Press Trust of India

The Border Security Force (BSF) has ordered a Court of Inquiry into the infiltration of three militants along the Indo-Pak border in Khour belt  in Jammu on August 26.

"We have ordered a Court of Inquiry (CoI) into the incident to fix responsibility in connection with infiltration," a BSF officer told PTI here.

The three armed militants sneaked into the Indian territory under the cover of firing from the Pakistan side on August 26, following which a massive operation was launched by the BSF to track them down.

The ultras killed four persons, including an army officer, and held 11 people hostage on August 27. The trio was killed after the 19-hour-long hostage drama.

The probe will uncover all aspects of the infiltration and any laxity on the part of the BSF deployed at forward-line.

The BSF authorities have demanded more electronic gadgets like hand held thermal imagers (HHTI) for troops deployed along the International Border in Jammu-Samba-Kathua sector of Jammu frontier, he said.

A central team of BSF from New Delhi had earlier reviewed the security set-up along the International Border in Jammu frontier, he said, adding that they also visited the spot of infiltration and taken clear picture of happenings.
