WB top-brass conduct survey on Lalgarh situationThu-Jun 25, 2009 Lalgarh / Manuggya Loiwal and Sumit Sarkar The senior-most bureaucrat of West Bengal Ashok Mohan Chokraborty tried to restore confidence among the villagers in Lalgarh on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Director General Coordination Bhupinder Singh and IG Law and Order Raj Kanojia. Chief Secretary Ashok Mohan Chokraborty said, "It was a failure on the part of the government where certain department has failed to deliver but this is not the right way to protest." Hundreds of villagers came to see the officers but not many felt their visit would improve the situation on the ground. A villager Raju Patra said, "I have faith in the government and hope this will make a difference and will improve the situation of our village." Another villager Reena Sen said, "I have serious doubts that anything will change … they are coming, seeing and going … and when the forces will go back our problems will rise… we have no hospitals or other basic amenities." The state government is not talking to the tribals yet. It hopes intitiatives like these would restore confindence among the villagers. This aerial survey by the top brass is a clear indication of the next offensive operation in the pipeline by the states. The ground check however, is yet another attempt to regain the lost faith in the conflict zone. Rate This Article: | |
