Aarushi murder case: UP Govt ready for CBI probe
Thu-May 29, 2008
Lucknow / Press Trust of India
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Thursday said that her government was ready for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Aarushi Talwar murder but the Centre must not play politics in the case.
“I am going to write a letter to the Centre demanding a CBI probe into the murders,” Mayawati said.
The CM, however, expressed doubt whether the CBI would take up the case, saying some requests in the past for such a probe had been turned down following "Centre's pressure".
“If this requests is also turned down, the UP police will reinvestigate the case,” Mayawati said.
Accusing the Congress-led Central Government of playing politics over the issue, Mayawati said that the case was being blown up more for "dirty politics" and less out of sympathy for the affected family.
“Me and my party strongly condemn this," she added. Questions have been raised over UP police claim that Rajesh Talwar, a dentist, had killed his daughter Aarushi and servant Hemraj on May 16.
Arushi's mother Nupur Talwar, also a dentist, has been insisting that her husband is innocent and the culprit is "out somewhere".
The family had demanded a CBI inquiry into twin murder case.
