Major earthquake strikes eastern Taiwan

A powerful earthquake has struck at the Pacific Ocean off southeastern Taiwan, but no damage or injuries have been reported.
Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau said that the magnitude 6.8 quake hit at around 9:57 am (local time) on Sunday (0157 GMT Sunday). It was faintly felt in Taiwan.
The bureau said that the epicenter was located at the Pacific Ocean about 230 km south of the eastern island of Lanyu, which is about 300 km southeast of the capital, Taipei.
The epicenter was as deep as 46 km below the ocean surface.
