JAANE TU YA JAANE NA: MOVIE REVIEW
RATING: * * * 1/2
Star Cast:
Jai Singh Rathore: Imran Khan
Aditi Wadia: Genelia D'Souza
Amit Wadia: Pratiek Babbar
The unassuming and frankly, quite charming nephew of Aamir Khan - Imran Khan - makes his debut in the recently released flick Jaane Tu.. The much awaited and the much touted movie manages to impress with its uncluttered presentation and simplistic portrayals.
Boasting of a tight screenplay and good – if not excellent – performances, Jaane Tu..is a teeny bopper romance, which is refreshingly mature in its treatment of the done-to-death plot.
Revolving around two college friends Jai and Aditi, the movie depicts a pair that is inseparable to the extent that everyone around them is affirmed in the impression of their lasting love for each other.
When faced with this glaring assumption, Jai and Aditi go to great heights in order to successfully allay this suspicion. The futility of their existence, when devoid of each other’s presence, hits them in the gut and guides the story to its predictable ending.
Imran is impressive for the most part of the script, but occasionally slips into the mould of a trained artist, freshly out of acting school. A hint of evident effort and minor instances of lack of progression mar an otherwise good performance.
Quite convincing as his character Jai, Imran is able to capture the willfully subdued, good at heart spirit of the protagonist. This, sadly - along with his characteristic youthful looks - places him in great danger of being typecast.
On the other hand, Imran’s lady love Genelia is a pleasure to watch and despite her slightly anglicized dialogue delivery manages to retain the essence of Aditi, the character she portrays, throughout the better part of the movie.
The bonhomie of actors, who form the happy melee that helps bring the love story to its fruition are passably good.
The one young actor that strikes the eye in a very special way during the course of the film is Pratiek Babbar, who plays Aditi’s brother – Amit. Legendary actress Smita Patil’s son performs commendably well in his small but well-etched role, with understated nuances and controlled dialogue delivery being his USP.
The cameos played by Naseeruddin Shah, Arbaaz Khan and Sohail Khan deserve a special mention too for their superb comic timing.
Though the first half of the movie drags a bit to its fag end, the predictable but sleekly presented second half makes up for it.
Imran Khan is provenly right in his assertion that Jaane Tu..cannot be pigeonholed as solely his debut vehicle.
The movie is fortunately devoid of an all-permeating presence of the debutante that makes for a nauseating view to say the least. Thoughtful character delineation has ensured the fact that every actor gets his/her due footage.
All in all, Jaane Tu..makes for an entertaining watch with peppy music, which though context-less, is fairly high on the melody quotient. The romantic comedy will strike a chord with the viewers and is sure to garner moolah at the Box Office.
