Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray has heaped praise on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, after the UPA government won an emphatic victory in Tuesday’s trust vote.
The veteran leader's statements came in an editorial in his party mouthpiece Saamna.
In a thinly-veiled reference to the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L K Advani, Thackeray said that Singh had not only showed those who attacked him from behind that he wasn’t “weak” but also returned the slander with “interest,” by proving his government’s majority in Parliament.
Thackeray said that Singh was a Sikh, steeped in the best traditions of the community’s reputation for bravery. He called the prime minister a gentleman surrounded by 'Duryodhanas' of Mahabharata.
But the Sena chief came down heavily on the UPA government itself, while also criticizing the Left for projecting Mayawati as a prime ministerial candidate.
He accused the Left and BSP of coming together with the single aim of toppling the government.
In the editorial, Thackeray said that "by raising a dream vision of prime ministership before Mayawati, the Left was making a historical blunder. Congress needs to be vanquished but using the BSP president towards that end amounts to administering a medicine that is more damaging than the disease.”
Thackeray also made a reference to the dramatic entry of three BJP MPS with bags of money, from which they displayed currency wads.
Describing the UPA victory in the trust vote as an outcome of "money power of industrialists,” he said that the events of the day had ruined the prestige of India’s parliamentary democracy.
"The events witnessed in Parliament...showed those who talk of principles and morality are the ones who are purchased first. The UPA’s survival is the result of unlimited power and the money bags loosened by industrialists. This may have saved the government but ruined the prestige of India's parliamentary democracy."
He also had a few snide words for those who had been “purchased,” saying they were the ones who had spoken of principles and morality.
Thackeray also said that the country was not secure in the hands of people who believe that toppling the government and grabbing power is in the best interest of the nation.

Thackeray is compared to Hitler but atleast when it comes to speaking the truth there is no two ways about his integrity. Firstly, when the Marathi Asmita was in question with regard to the Presidential poll, he openly advocated Pratima Patil for the post much to the dismay of his allies. He even openly admitted that the Nuke deal was in India's interest and praised Manmohan Singh for being a gentleman surrounded by Duryodhans. In fact, Karat the most infamous Hitler by his statement that he will go to any length to pull down the government spits venom in democracy. That was not all, he even expelled a true parliamentarian from the party for executing his constitutional obligation. Should I say more who the Hitler of today is. Karat hope you listening...? Hang your head in shame!
