NDA not to move no-confidence motion against govt
Mon-Jul 28, 2008
New Delhi / Press Trust of India
The NDA decided on Monday not to move a no-confidence motion against the government, apparently after the bruising it suffered in the confidence vote in the Lok Sabha last week.
"The NDA leaders today decided not to move a no-confidence and instead we would fight the illegitimate government and expose it inside and outside the house," BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said in a press conference in New Delhi on Monday.
Her remarks were made in reply to a question whether the opposition combine was proposing to move a no-confidence motion in the monsoon session of Parliament.
After a meeting of NDA leaders, Swaraj referred to reports of government considering postponement of the session and said the alliance would oppose any such move.
The Monsoon session, which was to be held in the month of July is already late. Now media reports suggest that the government is planning to further postpone the session which was earlier scheduled for August 11.
"There is no reason for the cancellation or postponement of the session. We will oppose any such move tooth and nail. A debate on the nuclear deal is yet to be done in Rajya Sabha," she said.
"This is an immoral and illegitimate government which has purchased and not won the trust vote," she added.
The meeting held at the residence of senior BJP leader L K Advani was attended Sharad Yadav, Prabhunath Singh of JD(U), Ananth Geethe and Manohar Joshi of Shiv Sena, Sukhdeo Singh Dhindsa of Akali Dal(B), Brij Kishore Tripathi B J Panda of BJD and leaders from BJP including party chief Rajnath Singh.
