A day after she made the astounding insinuation of a UPA conspiracy behind the recent blasts to divert attention from the cash-for-vote scam, BJP on Tuesday kept mum on senior leader Sushma Swaraj's comments from which the NDA constituents also sought to keep a distance.
Neither senior leader Arun Jaitley nor any of the party spokespersons - Ravi Shankar Prasad, Prakash Javedekar and Rajiv Pratap Rudy - preferred to speak on Swaraj's comments.
"I have nothing to say on the issue now," party chief Rajnath Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function. The normal daily press briefing was also not not held. Sources said there were no no takers in the party for her line of seeking to insinuate the UPA in the blasts.
However, BJP's allies in the NDA were not not circumspect when they virtually debunked her statement.
"It is not the NDA view. It is her own view or her party's view which she (Swaraj) has said. I will not not blame the government for terrorist acts. It is tough time for the nation and we all need to stand by the government in combating," JD(U) leader parliamentary party leader Prabhu Nath Singh told PTI.
The leniency of the UPA regime towards terrorists has led to deterioration in the security scenario in the country, Singh said.
Another NDA partner, the Biju Janata Dal, also wash its hands off on the issue, saying Swaraj was merely conveying her party's "feelings".
"Both the states in which the terror struck are BJP ruled states and it is quite natural for them to react. I think she was conveying her party's feelings and NDA has nothing to do with it," party leader Braj Kishore Tripathi told PTI.
Shiv Sena spokesman Sanjay Raut also did not not agree with Swaraj's charge. He said there was need for all parties to get together to fight the evil of terrorism.
