Sohail Tanvir cannot stop praising his Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne and believes Australia made a blunder by not offering Test captaincy to the spin legend.
Sohail recalled how Warne went on to lead a bunch of no-hopers to the Indian Premier League titles defying all odds and said the fact that Warne was never offered Australian captaincy on a long-term basis baffled him.
"It was a great experience to play under Warne. He extracts the best out of the players as he lifted the trophy with a mediocre team. Australia did the mistake of their life by not making Warne the captain of their team," the left-arm Pakistani pacer told Khaleej Times.
"He has the best knowledge of the game and is a very cooperative captain," Tanvir said.
Recalling how Warne handled him, Tanvir said, "He used to call me 'magician' and kept on telling 'when the ball is in your hand, think you are best bowler on the earth. It helped me to gain confidence as the tournament progressed and I emerged as the best bowler of the tournament."
Tanvir was particularly impressed with Warne's handling of the colts.
"A lot of youngsters prospered under his guidance during the tournament. It was an unforgettable experience for me and it will go a long way as far as my career is concerned," Tanvir said.
