Third Front will take shape soon: Karat

The CPI-M on Monday said that a Third Front would soon take shape to take on Congress which went ahead with "anti-people" Indo-US nuclear deal and BJP-led NDA allegedly patronising communalism.
Addressing party delegates at the open session of the 19th state conference of CPI-M in Agartala, party General Secretary Prakash Karat said, "A central rally involving leaders of several political parties, including BSP, would be organised by the end of August in Delhi to protest against anti-people activities of Congress and communal BJP-led NDA."
Karat said that the country now needed a Third Front because on one hand Congress had gone ahead with the "anti-people" Indo-US nuclear deal and on the other the BJP was "patronizing communalism to make narrow political gains".
The CPI-M leader said that the Third Front would organise a country-wide movement against liberal economic policy, communalism, Indo-US nuclear deal and for protecting independent foreign policy of the country.
Karat alleged that the UPA government was trying to make India a strategic defence and economic partner of America which would yield "bad" results.
Criticising Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Karat said, "Dr Singh should be ashamed of horse trading on the eve of trust vote. The way he bought the MPs for supporting his government in the trust vote of July 22 was not the mandate of people. In reality, his is a minority government."
