In a move to fulfill longstanding demands of the poor to uplift their healthcare, housing, power supply and road connectivity, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister on Wednesday laid the foundation of various development schemes worth Rs 250 crores in the Vrindavan/Brij region of Mathura district.
Mayawati said she has directed officials to complete the projects in time and in a phase manner during a period of one year so as to restore the pride of Vrindavan.
Completion of the schemes, including a 100-bed hospital, would be an important landmark in fulfilling the longstanding demand of the region, Mayawati said at the foundation laying ceremony.
She said despite the demand of the people of the area, which has heavy inflow of both national and international tourists, previous governments had "ignored" development of the region.
The chief minister also asked the state tourism department to prepare a masterplan for the region in three months time to draw more visitors.
