Cricket: PCB says no to ODI series against Kiwis
Tue-Aug 12, 2008
Karachi / Press Trust of India
The Pakistan Cricket Board has shown reluctance to host New Zealand for a three-match one-day series before the Champions Trophy, as the Kiwis took too much time to confirm or call off the series.
A senior PCB official said on Tuesday that after waiting for nearly two weeks the chances to host them were now remote.
"I don't think it is going to happen. Even if they say yes now I don't think we have enough time to prepare for the series and complete the logistical details for the series," Shafqat Naghmi, PCB Chief Operating Officer, said.
Pakistan had invited New Zealand for a three-match series from August 24 to 30 as part of preparations for the Champions Trophy.
But after initially confirming the tour the New Zealanders said they were reviewing the security situation in Pakistan before they could confirm the tour.
New Zealand are among those countries whose players are reluctant to play in the Champions Trophy because of security fears.
