The BJP in Jharkhand on Thursday demanded the dismissal of the Madhu Koda-led UPA coalition citing "deep division" among ruling allies.
"The government has failed to meet the aspirations of the people. We gave a memorandum to the Governor demanding its dismissal," party state unit President P N Singh said in Ranchi.
Seven ministers on Wednesday rallied behind Chief Minister Madhu Koda after Shibu Soren, President of an ally JMM, publicly demanded Koda's resignation to pave the way for him to take over the post.
Senior BJP leader Saryu Roy, in a press release, claimed that the JMM's decision to convene an emergency meeting on the prevailing political situation "itself reflects the division among the ministry".
"This calls for the resignation by the Chief Minister from his post and in case he does not quit, the Governor should direct him to either take a trust vote or submit a fresh list of supporting MLAs," Roy said.
"There is no need for a leadership change at this juncture when many development projects are in the pipeline," Deputy Chief Minister Stephen Marandi and Health minister Bhanu Pratap Sahi said on Wednesday.
Water Resources Minister Kamlesh Singh (NCP), Science and Technology Minister Chandraprakash Choudhary (AJSU), Rural Development Minister Enos Ekka (Ind) and Urban Development Minister Harinarrain Rai (Ind) also backed Koda.
