With improvement in situation, curfew was relaxed for two hours in Kupwara and Budgam districts on Wednesday even as remaining eight districts of the Valley remained under strict restrictions for the fourth day.

Curfew was relaxed in Kupwara district from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm, while in Budgam district it was relaxed from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon, official sources said.

They, however, said areas falling under police stations in Budgam and Beerwah where violence was witnessed in the first two days of curfew will remain under restrictions.

A high level meeting of civil and police officials was held to consider any relaxation in curfew in other districts, the sources said.

They said curfew was likely to be relaxed in the other districts in the afternoon in a phased manner.

There was no incident of defiance of curfew or protests from any part of the valley on Wednesday which has been under curfew since Sunday morning, the sources said. Streets in Srinagar and elsewhere in the Valley wore a deserted look.

Six people were killed and 80 injured in escalating violence in the Valley since Monday in firing by security forces.
