BJP leader L K Advani expressed satisfaction on Sunday over the accord signed to resolve the Amarnath land row and claimed that the Prime Minister had told him that the government will not succumb to "pressure from separatists".

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a rally in New Delhi, Advani said he wrote to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that "this is not a Hindu versus Muslim issue, this is not Jammu versus Valley issue. It is a surrender to the pressure of the separatists.

"Therefore the problem has arisen. And therefore when he (Singh) replied to me that 'I agree with this analysis' and also stated firmly that under no circumstances will the government take a decision under pressure from separatists, I felt satisfied that now we will be reaching a solution.

"And if now the decision has been reached I feel happy," Advani said.

The BJP leader said that from the initial reports received here it appeared the agreement reached was broadly satisfactory to the Sri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti, spearheading the agitation in Jammu region for transfer of land to the Shrine Board.

Advani said the issue should be recognised in "its true form."

The Samiti suspended its agitation today after the Jammu and Kashmir government agreed to hand over forest land to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) for the yatra period.

Meanwhile, beats of the dholak and sounds of crackers and dances replaced slogan shouting crowds of protesters as people celebrated the accord between the state authorities and agitationists after a 64-day long stir over the issue.

As the news about the pre-dawn pact granting land to SASB for temperory and exclusive use spread, over 2000 people waiting outside the venue for talks broke into a dance, gyrating to the beats of dholaks and bursted crackers amid chanting of Bum Bum Bholay.

They also distributed sweets and chocolates to celebrate what they dubbed as the victory of SAYSS in the Amarnath land row. The surcharged crowd continued dancing till morning.

The people particularly, children and women defied curfew in different places in Gangyal, Nagrota, Udhampur, Samba, Kathua, Bishnah, Vijaypur, Muthi, Satwari, R S Pura, Akhnoor, Gandhi Nagar, Greater Kailash, Katra, Reasi, Bhaderwah, Rajouri, Mishriwala, Parade, Panjtirthi and other places in Jammu region and celebrated victory by dancing to drum beats amid busrting of crackers.

"It is a historic day and victory day for us. It was celebrated across Jammu, Samba, Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Udhampur, Reasi, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah town of Doda district in Jammu region," SAYSS convenor, Leela Karan Sharma told reporters.

"This day would be celebrated as Vijay Divas from now onwards in Jammu region every year," he said.
