BJP exudes confidence prior to state polls

Asserting that there would be no anti-incumbency in states where the party is in power, the BJP on Wednesday exuded confidence that it would emerge victorious in four out of five states going to polls, including Delhi.
"Not only would the party return to power in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh by repeating its performance of 2003 assembly polls, it would also wrest power from the Congress in Delhi," BJP's State Election In-charge Venkaiah Naidu said at a press conference in Jaipur.
In Mizoram too, the BJP would make all efforts to be a partner in governance, he said.
Winnability of a candidate, wider acceptability, local touch, and commitment towards the party would be the criteria for distribution of tickets among the nominees, Naidu said indicating that the exercise may begin after Diwali.
"There is no hard criteria for sitting MLA getting the ticket...performance of individual candidate including sitting MLAs would be enough criteria...do not ask us for kiska ticket katega, kyonki hum ticket denge...wait for the first list of candidates after Diwali festival", he said.
The overall performance of the BJP government in the state and issues like rise in terror, spiralling inflation and discrimination with BJP-ruled states are the issues on which the elections will be contested, he said.
Anticipating cracks in the UPA coalition, Naidu said the Congress-led alliance is facing a tough challenge from terrorism, inflation, and terrorist ogranisations like SIMI.
Accusing the UPA of shielding Jamia Nagar terror suspects and indirectly supporting an "anti-national" outfit like SIMI on the one hand, Naidu criticised the Centre for planning to ban a "nationalist organisation" on the other.
"We want that the UPA government should ban the organisation", he said without naming the Bajrang Dal.

On the recent National Integration Council meeting in Delhi, Naidu said it was unfortunate that the UPA government initially left "terrorism" out of its agenda for the meet and included it only when CMs partricipating in it raised their objections.
"Now the UPA government tells the Supreme Court that Ramsethu was already dredged partially...one one has established so far that the Ramsethu was an integral part of Hindu religion", he said, adding it was another blunder on the Congress' part.
Sharing the dias with party incharge for Rajasthan affairs Gopi Nath Munde, he said a rally-cum meeting of party functionaries and booth level workers would be held in Jaipur soon.
The party's election management committee had a day-long meeting attended by the Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and party observers and senior functionaries to consider and prepare the candidates' panel and chalk out an electioneering programme for the state, he said.
