Buddha to request Tata to review decision
Fri-Oct 24, 2008
Kolkata / Press Trust of India
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bharratjee on Friday assured to write to Tata group chairman Ratan Tata to reconsider his decision to relocate the Nano project from Singur to Sanand, claimed a delegation of 'Nano Bachao Committee' that met the CM in Kolkata.
"The Chief Minister assured us that he will write to Tata and request him to reconsider the decision to shift Nano project to Gujarat," president of the committee Udayan Das told reporters after meeting Bhattacharjee.
Das said that the committee members had informed the Chief Minister that the situation in Singur had now changed and many "unwilling farmers" were also coming forward to accept their compensation cheques.
He said that the situation in Singur has now changed and the people have rejected the "unprincipled" agitation by the Opposition.
Meanwhile, Industry Minister Nirupam Sen said that he could not say at this stage whether a car project would be set up in Singur.
"How can I say that? I cannot say it so soon. When time comes I shall tell you," Sen said when asked whether a car project would come up in Singur.
There was speculation of another car project coming up at the Singur site after Transport Minister Subhas Chakraborty went public recently claiming that MoU with an automobile manufacturer would be signed soon. He, however, did not name any company for the purpose.
