Deshmukh to ask Railways to hold exams in Marathi

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said on Tuesday that the government would ask Railways to hold recruitment exams in Marathi.
"If Central exams for services like IAS and IPS can be held in Marathi, holding examinations for railway recruitment in Marathi should not be a problem", Deshmukh said after a meeting of MPCC executive in central Mumbai.
"The decision on enforcing Marathi signboards (on shops and commercial establishments) is not a new one. We are merely implementing it", Deshmukh said.
On the issue of attacks on north Indians, including the recent attacks on Bihari youth who had come to appear in railway recruitment exams, Deshmukh said, "Congress ideology is of taking everyone along. No one will have any reason to feel insecure."
Asked about resignation of AICC general secretary Margaret Alva after her 'poll tickets for sale' allegations, Deshmukh said he was not in a position to comment as he was unaware of the issue.
In the meeting, which was chaired by MPCC president Manikrao Thakre, Revenue Minister Narayan Rane was understood to have raised the issue of "Marathi pride" in the context of MNS-led agitation against north Indians.
Rane also was believed to have questioned the performance of the DF government and lack of "people-oriented decisions". However, Rane declined to comment.
