Housing society for government employees and improving the transport system by monorail and light rail transit were on Monday promised by ruling Congress in its manifesto for coming assembly elections in Delhi.
However, the party dropped the demand for statehood for Delhi 10 years after it came to power on the plank.
Releasing the manifesto for the November 29 elections, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said nearly 15,000 flats are almost ready for slum residents and if voted back to power, the party-led government will build another four-five lakh flats for them.
The manifesto promised to bring in a housing scheme for government employees after they retire from the services.
"It will be our endeavour to create Housing Societies for Government employees so that when they retire they can have a roof over their heads," said Dikshit in the presence of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief J P Agarwal and Delhi's MPs Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and Krishna Terath besides other party leaders.
To improve the education sector, the party promised to set up new industrial training institutes and four ITIs and allocate additional outlay for 'Sarv Siksha Abhiyan' besides introducing braile books for visually challenged students.
If voted to power for third consecutive term, the Congress also promised to upgrade the Connaught Place area and will introduce two Monorail corridor and three routes of Light Rail Transit, the manifesto says.
