National Conference chief Omar Abdullah will take oath as the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir along with five ministers before January 6, it was announced on Thursday night.
Top leaders of NC and Congress, however, steered clear of key issues like having a deputy Chief Minister and duration of Chief Minister, after a nearly 90-minute meeting in New Delhi.
"All functional details will be discussed later. But there will be a joint mechanism to review the performance of the government," AICC general secretary Prithviraj Chavan told reporters after the meeting.
He stated this when asked whether the next government headed by Abdullah would have a deputy chief minister of Congress and a rotation of chief ministership between the two parties as was the case in the previous Congress-PDP coalition.
"There would a meeting of the legislative parties of both Congress and NC to discuss all the policy issues," Chavan added.
The meeting was attended by Union Ministers Pranab Mukherjee, AK Antony, Saifuddin Soz, former J&K CM Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prithviraj Chavan and Congress President Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmad Patel.
From NC's side, Omar Abdullah was escorted by his party colleagues like Abdul Rahim Rather, Mohammad Shafi Uri, Mian Altaf and Ajay Salhotra.
