Delhi Police have set up a team to investigate the cash-for-vote scam in which bundles of currency notes totalling Rs one crore were displayed by three BJP MPs during the July 22 trust vote in the Lok Sabha.

The wads of currency notes were handed over to Delhi Police Crime Branch on Thursday by Home Ministry.

A case has been registered and the matter is being probed by the team headed by Rajendra Bakshi, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Interstate Crime Cell (ICC), sources in Delhi Police said on Friday.

The team will examine the documents provided by the Lok Sabha Secretariat in the case.

Police are yet to decide whether to question certain persons, including Sanjeev Saxena, said to be an aide of Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, alleged broker Sohail Hindustani and Sudheendra Kulkarni, an aide of BJP leader L K Advani, in the case.

Further course of action will be decided on the basis of the findings after examining the documents, sources said.

Senior police personnel in ICC are associated with the team probing the matter, they said.

Earlier, Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had referred the matter to the Union Home Ministry which decided to hand over the investigation in the cash-for-vote scam to the Delhi Police.

On December 15, a Lok Sabha Committee had submitted its report on the scam exonerating Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel, saying they had no role to play in it.
