Modi lashes out at dynastic politics

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the Gandhi-Nehru family alleging that there was a "conspiracy" to promote the family.
"A conspiracy to promote one family's past is endangering the future of the country," Modi said in an obvious indication without directly naming anyone.
Noting that members of the family have ruled the country for as many as 37 years, he said that if the past five years were also taken into account, then it would be a 42-year rule.
With Manmohan Singh being an "invisible" Prime Minister, it was "power without accountability" for the family in the last five years, he alleged.
Addressing the party's National Council meeting in Nagpur, the BJP's star campaigner gave a new spin to the victory of Barack Obama in the US Presidential elections, claiming that it was the result of Americans being fed up with the stranglehold of a few families in politics.
"It was senior Bush … followed by two terms of Bill Clinton and then two terms of junior Bush and then there was the possibility of another Clinton. The people there felt if it will be only two families that will run the country," Modi contended.
Modi, who was participating in the discussion on the political resolution, said that in India "only one family has ruined everything."
Making a strong pitch for LK Advani as the next Prime Minister, he said that what the country was needing was a "strong" leader like the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate and "not like Manmohan Singh whose presence is not felt" despite him occupying the top post.
Adding to the attack on the Congress was Sushma Swaraj, who said that owing to dynastic politics, there is no future for an ordinary worker in the Congress party.
"Go tell it to the youngsters that they have a future only with the BJP while in Congress the leadership is based on the family legacy and appointments to the party positions are based on compassionate grounds," party leader Sushma Swaraj said.
Addressing the National Council meeting, the former Delhi chief minister compared young leaders in Congress by name with those in BJP in a bid to prove her point.
"Let us compare their young leaders, Rahul Gandhi, son of late Rajiv Gandhi, Jyotiraditya Scindia, son of Madhavrao Scindia, Jatin Prasad, Sachin Pilot, Priya Dutt. Now look at our leadership. Are they here due to their families?" she said while taking the names of leaders like LK Advani, Rajnath Singh, Venkaiah Naidu, Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi among others.
"Our leaders are here as a result of their hard work and dedication and not on compassionate grounds," she added.
Swaraj, however, cautioned partymen against infighting and called for unity in ranks in the run-up to the polls.
