TN lawyers continue to protest

Chennai / NewsX Bureau
On Friday morning, over 2,000 advocates of the Madras High Court resumed their nine-day old agitation, despite the Chief Justice of India asking them to call it off. The lawyers also suspected that some outsiders tried to join protests to create trouble.
The Bar Council of India called for a day of protest on Friday to express solidarity with the lawyers' associations in Tamil Nadu. The Delhi Bar Association also boycotted work for a day.
A delegation of Tamil Nadu lawyers returned from Delhi with an interim order from the Supreme Court.
The court ordered transfer of some police officials who were involved in the clashes with lawyers. But, the angry lawyers were not willing to give up their demand for stricter action against the guilty policemen.
The advocates, who have kept off courts for a long time now, are getting ready to make petitions to the Supreme Court-appointed Srikrishna Commission.
The Srikrishna Commission, which has been asked to submit its report in the next 10 days, will be assisted by two officers from the CBI.
Most lawyers, however, have blamed the state government's inaction as the reason for the present crisis.
The hearing of the Srikrishna Commission starts on Saturday.
The lawyers have planned to decide their next set of actions after making representations to the commission.
