An FIR has been lodged against Samajwadi Party General Secretary, Sanjay Dutt for allegedly using religion to garner votes.

Sanjay Dutt while campaigning in Mau had alleged that he was tortured in police custody during the 1993 Bombay blasts probe, as his mother was a Muslim. The FIR was registered after a directive by the Election Commission. It also names party's candidate from Mau seat Arshad Jamal.
