    Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, recommending a four-six per cent reservation for Gujjars as a nomadic tribe. Gujjar chief K S Bainsla welcomed the move, though he refused to call off the stir that has claimed 37 lives so far.

    With four more deaths reported in police firing on agitating Gujjars, the toll in Saturday's violence in Rajasthan has touched 35, authorities said on Sunday. The Gujjars, who are demanding Scheduled Tribe status, have refused the state government's offer of talks.


  • Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje invited Gujjar leader Kirori Singh Bhainsla for talks on Sunday, in a bid to end the community members' violent agitation. Police firing on violent Gujjar protestors has claimed 31 lives in two days.

    The army and police on Tuesday launched a joint search for militants in Dami Chak area of Samba in Jammu and Kashmir following reports by villagers that two people had been seen moving suspiciously in the region, officials said.
