- Government on Tuesday admitted that the problem of fake currency was "alarming and dangerous" as some groups are trying to destabilise the Indian economy by injecting massive doses of counterfeit notes in the country.
The prime accused in a fake currency racket was arrested along with a special police officer (SPO) during a raid in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.
A criminal complaint was registered against all employees of an Oriental Bank of Commerce branch in Ghaziabad town of Uttar Pradesh, where counterfeit currency worth Rs 149,100 was found, police said.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the probe in the fake currency scam that was unearthed in the State Bank of India's Domariyaganj branch in Uttar Pradesh, officials said Wednesday.
Zaquir and Mamta Sahi were arrested on Sunday from Bhalua village in Siddharthnagar district with Rs 575,000 in fake currency.
