INS Vikramaditya
Under the deal signed in 2004 the 44.5 thousand tonner Kiev class carrier will now be completed by 2011 for sea going trials and delivered in 2012 with the delay of four years.
India could end up paying a staggering $2 billion more for a Russian aircraft it has bought from Russia for $1.5 billion, a defence ministry source said on Friday.
With India openly expressing its displeasure over Russia inordinately delaying delivery of INS Vikramaditya, a top Russian official on Tuesday was hopeful the price escalation talks for the aircraft carrier will soon end to the mutual satisfaction of both countries.
The ship at the centre of the storm is an aircraft carrier called the Admiral Gorshkov - or the INS Vikramaditya - which Russia has been refitting for sale to the Indian Navy.
