An army Major on Saturday died on the spot when a grenade slipped from his hands while he was patrolling a forest area of Ganderbal district in Kashmir, officials said.

Two legislators were marshalled out of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Wednesday after an uproar over inter-district recruitments which they alleged were against the people of backward districts of the state.

Two persons including a policeman were killed and four others injured when militants opened fire on a police party at the crowded Sopore bus stand in Baramulla district of North Kashmir this evening, police said.

In the third strike in the city within a week, militants on Sunday attacked a CRPF patrol near a police station in downtown Srinagar, killing a jawan and injuring five others.

Two mine blasts have rocked Indo-Pak border in Hiranagar and Akhnoor sub-sectors in Jammu and Kathua districts, police said.
