Lawyers across Bihar on Thursday went on a two-day strike to protest the recent killings of three of their colleagues by unidentified gunmen.
After more than a month-long boycott that brought judiciary in Tamil Nadu to a standstill, lawyers on Monday returned to courts following their decision to call off the agitation last week.
Maintaining a tough posture, Tamil Nadu lawyers on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that their ongoing strike would not be called off unless action was taken against the police officers allegedly responsible for the recent clash between the advocates and police in the Madras High Court.
Madras High Court on Monday directed the Tamil Nadu government and police to file an affidavit by March 11, on why it was not ordering a CBI inquiry into the clash between lawyers and police in the High Court premises on February 19 "based on a court order".
On Friday morning, over 2,000 advocates of the Madras High Court resumed their nine-day old agitation, despite the Chief Justice of India asking them to call it off. The lawyers also suspected that some outsiders tried to join protests to create trouble.
