In a damning indictment, the Madras High Court on Thursday held four top police officers including a former city commissioner "squarely responsible" for the February 19 police-lawyer clash and asked the state government to exercise its discretion to suspend them pending disciplinary action.

The Madras High Court on Wednesday ordered removal of photographs of a 25-year-old woman and her four-year-old daughter from AIDS awareness campaign banners across Tamil Nadu within a week after she complained that they gave an impression as if the two were HIV affected.

The Madras High Court Bench has held that the armed forces personnel accused of committing murder, rape and other such crimes could be tried in a criminal court and not necessarily through court martial.

As the issue kept popping up, Union Minister A Raja on Saturday described as "baseless and politically motivated" allegations by AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa that he had tried to influence a Madras High Court judge in a marksheet scandal case.

Union Law Minister Veerappa Moily on Tuesday said he would look into the allegation made by a Madras High Court Judge that a Union Minister had tried to influence him to grant anticipatory bail to a doctor and his son in a forged mark sheets case filed by CBI.
