- Mizoram Chief Minister Lalthanhawla on Thursday said the new Congress government would work towards overall development and socio-economic uplift of the state, besides striving to focus on providing a clean and transparent administration.
Lal Thanhawla, who steered the Congress back to power in Mizoram in a landslide win after a gap of ten years, was on Wednesday elected as the legislature party leader.
The Congress stormed back to power after a decade in Mizoram, winning 32 seats in the 40-member state legislature on Monday. Veteran Congress leader Lalthanhawla is set to become the chief minister of a Congress government in the state for the fourth time.
Zoramthanga on Monday resigned as Mizoram Chief Minister after his party, the MNF, was swept out of power by the Congress, which secured a two-thirds majority in the assembly elections.
Riding an anti-incumbency wave, Congress on Monday stormed back to power in the north-eastern hilly state of Mizoram securing a simple majority in the 40-member house.
