Nandigram in East Midnapur, where a land war was fought by Trinamool Congress against the setting up of a chemical hub in 2007, was today put on the railway map by Railway minister Mamata Banerjee with a project that will affect seven to eight families.

Protests over land acquisition in Singur and Nandigram have not had any major impact on investment flows into West Bengal, state industry minister Nirupam Sen said.

At least four persons were killed - three of them in West Bengal and one in Rajasthan – as stray violence, police firing and booth-capturing attempts marred the fourth phase of polling in Lok Sabha elections which saw a turnout of 57 percent of nearly 95 million voters.

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Saturday chose Nandigram, where 14 persons were killed in police firing on this day in 2007, to launch her party's campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal.
