    A power-struggle appears to be brewing among the remnants of the LTTE, with one faction claiming that the Tamil Tiger leadership, including its supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran is safe and will re-emerge when the "right time comes".

    Ending its stoic silence over the death of Tamil Tiger supremo Velupillai Prabhakaran, the LTTE today said the top rebel leader was killed in last week's final battle with the Sri Lankan military in the north.

    With LTTE out of its way, Sri Lanka today assured India that it will implement a law for devolving powers to Tamil-dominated areas as both the countries agreed on the need for a lasting political solution to the ethnic conflict.
  • As Sri Lanka announced the end of the war against LTTE with the killing of its chief V Prabhakaran, National Security Adviser M K Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon are expected to travel there in the next few days along with a Rs 500-crore rehabilitation package.
