In the third strike in the city within a week, militants on Sunday attacked a CRPF patrol near a police station in downtown Srinagar, killing a jawan and injuring five others.

Tension prevailed in parts of Srinagar on Monday as shopkeepers observed a bandh against arrest of youths on charges of stone-hurling.

At least 19 persons, including eight securitymen, were injured in separate incidents as violence over the killing of a teenager spread to some other districts during the separatist-sponsored general strike on Tuesday, official sources said.

Several areas in Srinagar on Monday observed a shutdown to protest the death of a 16-year-old boy in clashes with the police, even as authorities suspended an assistance sub-inspector for acting in a "negligent and careless" manner.

At least 30 people were injured on Saturday when Shia devotees clashed with police here after they were prevented from taking out a Muharram procession in violation of prohibitory orders in force in the city.
