Turkey's state-run news agency says eight army officers believed to have been surveying an area near the house of a senior official of the Islamic-oriented government have been released from custody.

Suspected Kurdish rebels detonated a roadside bomb that killed nine soldiers Wednesday in a US-made armored personnel carrier in southeastern Turkey, the Turkish military said.
