A Varanasi-Mumbai Akasa Air flight carrying 172 passengers made an emergency landing at Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal on Thursday after a passenger experienced a medical emergency, officials said.

According to Ramji Awasthi, the airport director, the incident occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. when the pilot, responding swiftly to the situation, contacted Air Traffic Control (ATC) and requested permission for an emergency landing. “The pilot contacted the Air Traffic Control and made an emergency landing at 11:40 a.m. after a passenger faced a serious health issue,” Awasthi told PTI.

Upon landing, the ailing passenger, who was reported to be in critical condition, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical care. The details of the passenger’s condition or the nature of the medical emergency have not been disclosed.

The emergency landing highlights the responsiveness and coordination between the flight crew and ground control, ensuring the safety and well-being of the passengers during unexpected situations.

The flight, after addressing the medical emergency and completing the necessary formalities, is expected to continue its journey to Mumbai at 5:00 p.m., according to Awasthi. Passengers are being kept informed of the situation, and the airline is making efforts to minimize the delay.
