Its nothing less than a dream come true for Coldplay’s Chris Martin to share stage alongside Michael J. Fox. During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on October 3, the 47-year-old Coldplay frontman reflected on the surreal moment he shared with Fox, now 63, at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival.
“For people our age, certain things are ingrained in us, especially things that inspired us to pursue our careers,” Martin said, referring to Fox’s iconic role in *Back to the Future*. He added, “It’s surreal to get to play with him. It feels like being seven years old and in heaven. And of course, he’s incredibly inspirational as a person, but also, he’s Marty McFly!”
Fox had surprised fans during Coldplay’s Glastonbury set on June 29, joining Martin on stage for renditions of Humankind and Fix You. The performance was a memorable moment for both the band and the audience.
Martin also fondly recalled a previous charity event performance with Fox, where the actor played two songs from the Back to the Future soundtrack. “He was so gracious. And in the middle of Earth Angel, he did that hand-disappearing trick from the movie. It was everything,” Martin said, referencing the famous scene from the film.
Earlier in the show, Martin entertained the crowd by disguising himself as “Nigel,” wearing a brown wig and glasses. He humorously joined Fallon onstage for a few songs, changing lyrics and making the audience laugh with his antics.
For Martin, sharing the stage with Fox was a nostalgic and deeply meaningful experience, merging his childhood dreams with his adult success as a musician.
