Bibek Debroy, a distinguished Indian economist and the chief of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM), passed away on Friday at the age of 69. Debroy was celebrated for his extensive contributions to India’s policymaking landscape and his scholarly work in Indology, leaving a significant impact on both academia and public policy.

Debroy’s academic journey began at the Ramakrishna Mission School in Narendrapur, West Bengal, where he developed a passion for learning. He furthered his education at prestigious institutions, including Presidency College in Kolkata, the Delhi School of Economics, and Trinity College, Cambridge.
