Manipur has been grappling with ongoing violent clash in the area, where every day new incidents of abductions, murders and assaults are reported.
Earlier, an autopsy report of a woman killed and assaulted, shocked the nation as she suffered a ‘third-degree torture.’ Moreover two Meiti men were burned to death.
Now Political leaders, civil societies and people are urging for an immediate rescue of the six people abducted, including 3 women and 3 children on November 11 by suspected militant.
The six family members were abducted from the Jiribam district in Manipur, including a 10-month-old infant.
BJP, Congress Demands Immediate Release
Manipur BJP president A. Sharda Devi condemned the abduction, calling for their unconditional release on humanitarian grounds. “We appeal to the abductors to release the women and children immediately,” she said.
Congress leaders, including former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, also urged immediate action. He held a meeting Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya to demand decisive measures and ensure immediate release of the abducted.
Civil Societies Demonstrates Against the Abduction
The Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) observed a 24-hour shutdown across the Imphal Valley, accusing security forces of negligence. Thirteen organizations have issued a seven-day ultimatum to the government, threatening to withdraw support from national political parties if no decisive action is taken.
Adding to the pressure, the Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) and the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) condemned the incident, calling it a violation of humanitarian and international child protection laws. They urged the immediate release of the victims and criticized the government’s inability to protect civilians.
’Black Day’
Meanwhile, students across the state marked November 14 as “Black Children’s Day” in protest, wearing black badges and carrying placards demanding swift rescue operations. “No Children’s Day until the captured children are released,” read one placard.
Authorities have launched extensive search operations to rescue the victims. Inspector General of Police (Operations) I.K. Muivah confirmed the efforts, stating, “Search operations are ongoing, and all resources are being deployed to rescue the abducted individuals.”
