Refuting the baseless hearsay doing the rounds about the tragic car accident in Dehradun, in which six of its seven members died, the father of the sole survivor appeals to public and media to resist from spreading unverified information on the incident. Vipin Agarwal, whose son Siddhesh is presently in the ICU on a ventilator, wished society could be compassionate with the families grieving for the six young lives.
“The public should desist from spreading half-truths and unverified rumors about the circumstances that led to the accident.” He further said, “We have lost six children. The families of these six children are in such deep distress that we cannot overcome it. One child is in the ICU now, and he is on a ventilator.”
Investigations Underway, Truth Will Emerge
Amid the claims of intoxication and reckless behaviour before the accident, Vipin also said that the investigation would reveal the facts. “The investigation is already going on, and the truth will come out. Please don’t believe these rumours,” he pleaded.
There have been some speculations that the victims were going for a party and had drunk some alcohol before getting into the Toyota Innova. No testimony has been given by any medical doctors or specialists who have conducted an autopsy to support this claim.
Theories of Rumours
Social media is full of opinions, with rumors that the group was having a street race against this BMW. In fact, this story went that the driver was accelerating overly to overtake the BMW due to hurt pride. However, police have since demolished such claims by reviewing CCTV footage that indicated the Innova gained speed perilously just minutes before impact.
Another rumor claimed that the victims were partially protruding out from the windows or sunroof of the car as it crashed thus sustaining decapitations. According to the police, the serious head injuries are results of the impact from crash and not as what is being said on social media.
A Call for Compassion
With the investigation still on, Vipin Agarwal called for citizens to concentrate on helping those affected rather than spreading speculations. “We have already suffered an unimaginable loss,” he said. “Let’s not make it harder for the families by spreading baseless stories.” The terrible accident has left a deep scar on those families as the authorities are working hard to piece together what happened leading to the devastating crash.
