Jasprit Bumrah Makes History, Becomes First Ever Player To Achieve THIS Milestone

India’s cricket star, Jasprit Bumrah, has made history in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy second Test at the Adelaide Oval on Friday. After his Player of the Match performance in the first Test in Perth, where he guided India to a dominant 295-run victory, the focus was on Bumrah as India batted in the final session of Day 1.

Jasprit Bumrah became the first bowler in the world to take 50 Test wickets in the 2024 calendar year. His landmark achievement came in the fifth over of his spell when he dismissed Australia’s Usman Khawaja. Khawaja edged a ball to Rohit Sharma at slip, marking the 50th wicket for Bumrah in just this year.

This makes Bumrah the top wicket-taker in Test cricket for 2024, with his closest competitor, Ravichandran Ashwin, having 46 wickets.

Top Test Wicket-Takers Of 2024

  • Jasprit Bumrah (India) – 50 wickets
  • Ravichandran Ashwin (India) – 46 wickets
  • Shoaib Bashir (England) – 45 wickets
  • Ravindra Jadeja (India) – 44 wickets
  • Gus Atkinson (England) – 44 wickets

India’s Struggles In First Innings

India, who chose to bat first after winning the toss, received a difficult start from the very first ball. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed by Mitchell Starc. The efforts by KL Rahul and Shubman Gill could contribute up to 69 runs only, but after this partnership, India’s batting collapsed dramatically. India finally fell for just 180.

There was some resistance in the lower order, in particular from Nitish Reddy, who scored a battling 44 runs. Australia bundled India out with good bowling by Mitchell Starc to take six wickets. For this, it was his record-breaking fourth five-wicket haul in day-night Test matches.
