Ashwini Vaishnav, the Indian Government’s Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics, and Information Technology, shared an interesting video on Friday showing the Vande Bharat Express train number two travelling at a speed of 180 kilometres per hour. Notably, the one-minute video contains two elements: a glass filled to the brim with water and a cellular device that displays the train’s speed.
“Excellent ride quality,” wrote the minister. “Look through the glass,” Vaishnav wrote on Twitter. In the most recent trial, held on Friday, the locomotive-less train reached a top speed of 180 kilometres per hour.
The video depicts a phone with its speedometer application displayed on the screen. A phone and a glass of water are placed on a table next to the train’s window. The speedometer readings in the one-minute clip ranged between 180 and 183 kmph.
The Vande Bharat Express, also known as Train 18, is an Indian semi-high-speed, intercity, EMU train that operates on two major routes as of March 2022, one from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and the other from New Delhi to Varanasi.
Vaishnav posted another video on Twitter with the caption “Atma-nirbhar Bharat ki Raftaar.”
The Vande Bharat train was washed and cleaned in the washing pit during its preliminary inspection. Aside from that, all of the train’s instruments and panels were examined.
Vande Bharat speed trials were conducted at various speeds on the Kota-Nagda railway section.
The RDSO (Research, Design, and Standards Organization) team conducted detailed oscillation trials on a prototype rake of 16 coaches of the train set with a maximum test speed of 180 kmph using a newly designed Vande Bharat train set.
In Kota Division, trials were conducted in stages. The first trial was between Kota and Ghat ka Barana, the second between Ghat Ka Barana and Kota, the third trial was non-recording on the down line between Kurlasi and Ramganj Mandi, the fourth and fifth trials were on the down line between Kurlasi and Ramganj Mandi, and the sixth trial was done on the down line between Kurlasi and Ramganj Mandi and Laban.
The Vande Bharat train is entirely made in India.
It is a train that travels at a moderate speed. The Vande Bharat train is a self-propelled engine train, which means it lacks a separate engine. It has automatic doors, air-conditioned chair car coaches, and a revolving chair that can turn 180 degrees.
