Udaipur: Section 144 imposed, ban on kite flying

In view of Makar Sankranti and other approaching holidays in Udaipur, the District Administration has enforced Section 144 in the city till January 31 and has prohibited kite flying for four hours, as mandated by the state government.

Prabha Gautam, the city’s Additional District Collector (ADC), stated that this was done to avert the death of two-wheeler drivers and birds from metal mixed manjha used for kite flying during the Makar Sankranti celebration.

“District Collector and District Magistrate Tarachand Meena has invoked Section 144 provisions to prohibit the wholesale and retail sale and usage of metal manjha within the district’s borders,” the ADC stated.

According to the administration’s directive, kite flying will be prohibited from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. in the morning and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the evening.

Earlier, the Gehlot administration had prohibited kite flying in the state in light of the happenings in Manjha ahead of Makar Sankranti.
