Mizoram: Assam Rifles seize heroin worth Rs 3.4 crore, 2 apprehended

On the borders of Sesawng Village in Mizoram’s Aizawal district, Assam Rifles and CID (SB) conducted a joint operation that resulted in the seizure of 680 grammes of drugs worth Rs 3.40 crore and the detention of two individuals, according to police.

Lalnunzira (32) and Lalbiaktluanga (32), two residents of Zokhawthar in the Champhai district, have been named as the defendants. Based on a reliable tip, the suspected heroin was found in the custody of the two accused people hidden inside 60 soap cases, an official said.

“The estimated value of the suspected heroin is Rs 3.40 crore in the international market,” Mizoram police said. In a related event, on Sunday, The 42nd Assam Rifles and a squad of Champhai Police conducted a joint operation in which they discovered 119 grammes of heroin valued at more than Rs 59 lakh hidden inside a vehicle.

The Joint team discovered 119 grammes (9 soap cases) of heroin from a vehicle while performing random checks near Mualkawi village (Zokhawthar route) in the Champhai district of Mizoram. This quantity of heroin is equivalent to more than Rs 59 lakh on the international market.

The driver of the car travelling from Zokhawthar to Champhai, Vanlalchama (36) of Khamrang village, Kolasib district, had the illegal substances in his hands when it was discovered. The offender was the subject of a case FIR under Sections 21(b)/25 of the ND&PS Act, according to Champai Police.

In the Kolasib district’s Vairengte town last month, the Mizoram police stopped a truck that was transporting empty cooking gas cylinders and found 625 grammes of heroin inside. The recovered illegal goods, according to the police, are worth Rs. 3.4 crore on the world market.

In the previous month, the Mizoram police reported that a team of Vairengte PS officers in the Kolasib Dist of Mizoram had stopped a truck carrying empty cooking gas cylinders as it travelled from Ngopa, Champhai to Silchar and had found 625 grammes (50 soap cases) of heroin, which was worth Rs 3.4 crore on the black market.

The bottom of an empty gas cylinder that had been sliced open contained the seized contraband.
According to police officials, the car’s driver was detained, and a file had been opened at the Vairengte Police Station for additional legal action.
