Police and security forces apprehended an active terrorist in Sopore, Baramulla district, and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession, according to a statement issued by Kashmir Police on Tuesday.

Police and security forces apprehended an active terrorist in Sopore, Baramulla district, and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession, according to a statement issued by Kashmir Police on Tuesday.

Owais Ahmad Mir, a resident of War Mohalla Gund Brat, has been identified as the terrorist. During the search, incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition were discovered, including a 9mm Pistol, 08 (9mm) rounds, a Pistol Magazine, and a Chinese Grenade, according to the statement.

According to the statement, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Sopore Police and Army (22RR) in the Dangerpura area based on specific information about the presence of terrorists in Madina Bagh Moh.

While the initial cordon was being established, a terrorist was spotted attempting to flee and breach the cordon, taking cover in narrow lanes, by-lanes, and congested areas. The movement was communicated to all troops, and the mission leader reorganised the inner cordon based on information, according to the statement.

In assessing the situation, the vigilant troops demonstrated situational awareness, extreme restraint, and exceptional fire control by not opening fire, according to the statement. The alert troops of the joint team were able to capture the terrorist alive, demonstrating great synergy.

It is important to note that by apprehending the aforementioned terrorist, police and security forces averted a major tragedy and prevented planned target killings in the area, thereby spoiling the nefarious designs of Pakistan terrorist handlers who are always hellbent on disrupting peace in the valley.

On Monday, security forces defused a three-kilogram Improvised Explosive Device (IED) discovered along a state highway in the Tulibal area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore.
