Stones pelted at Ram Navmi procession in Vadodara

Stones were pelted at a Ram Navami procession in Gujarat’s Vadodara city on Thursday, according to police.

While some vehicles were damaged, no one was hurt, and the procession continued along its planned route under police protection, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Yashpal Jaganiya.

When Jaganiya and other senior police officers learned of the incident, they rushed to the scene.

According to a local Bajrang Dal leader, despite knowing that such an incident had occurred in the past, police were nowhere to be found when the procession, which takes place every year along the same route, was attacked.

DCP Jaganiya, on the other hand, claimed that police had provided security for every procession held in the city on Thursday.

“The situation is under control. The incident took place when the procession reached a mosque and people started gathering at the spot. This is not a communal riot. We dispersed the crowd and the procession also went ahead on its route. All such processions in the city were already given police protection,” the police officials claimed.
