J-K: Ex-terrorist turned OGW arrested in Kupwara district, 1 grenade recovered

An ex-terrorist turned OGW (overground worker) was apprehended by Kupwara Police and the Army in a joint operation on Sunday, and one grenade was also found, according to an official statement.

According to the statement, Kupwara Police and Army Camp Panzgam established a joint Naka at Main Market Karlpora based on specific intelligence gathered by Kupwara Police. The OGW moving in suspicious circumstances attempted to elude Naka personnel during the Naka checking, but was caught.

He had one grenade found in his possession. The statement claims that Rafiq Ahmad Khan, a resident of Waterkhani Drugmulla Kupwara and the son of Habib Ullah Khan, was later identified as the OGW.

Rafiq is a terrorist who was trained in Pakistan before turning himself in and is currently an OGW for the terrorist group Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM).

He confessed to receiving the grenade from the Chogul neighbourhood of Handwara and delivering it to someone in the Kralpora neighbourhood on the orders of his Pakistan-based HM handler so that it could be thrown at security forces. This information came to light during the preliminary investigations.

In accordance with pertinent UA(P) Act provisions, a case has been filed at Police Station Kralpora, and an investigation has begun.
